Text 8
W: Hey, John. It’s me, Nancy.
M: Oh, hi, Nancy. What’s happening?
W: I’m cooking. Do you want to come over to my place for dinner?
M: That sounds great. What are you making?
W: Korean food. Have you ever had Korean food?
M: No, I haven’t. I’ve never tried it. What’s it like?
W: Well, it’s kind of spicy. It’s like Japanese food, but it’s pretty hot.
M: It sounds good. Japanese food can be a bit tasteless sometimes. I like hot food. What time do you want me to come over?
W: You can come anytime you like. You can come now if you like.
M: All right. I’ll come now. I’ll see you in about an hour.
W: Okay, see you then.
M: Oh, do you want me to bring anything?
W: No, just bring yourself.

Text 9
W: I telephoned you yesterday afternoon but you didn’t answer. Where were you?
M: I was in another room when you called. I didn’t hear the phone ringing until it was too late.
W: What were you working on?
M: I was working on a report that I needed to send to a customer. What were you doing when you telephoned?
W: I was looking for Tom. Do you know where he was?
M: Tom was driving to a meeting.
W: Oh, I see. What did you do yesterday?
M: I met the representatives in the morning. In the afternoon, I worked on the report and was just finishing when you telephoned. What did you do?
W: Well, at 9:00 I had a meeting with Mr. Anderson. After that, I did some research.
M: Sounds like a boring day!
W: Tell me about the reprot. What do you think of it?
M: I think the report is good. Tom believes it’s good, too.
W: I know that every report you write is excellent.

Text 10
M: Every day, hundreds of people head for Queensland’s national parks and protected areas. These are good places to enjoy the pleasure of a bush picnic, to see native birds and animals in the wild, or simply just to relax.
If you are looking for a close touch with nature, why not go bushwalking? Walking tracks can take you to places you won’t reach in a car. They can also make walking easy.
Take a walk and get close to delicate grasses beside the track, look up through branches full of leaves to high tree tops, catch a glimpse of a yellow bird flying among branches or appreciate picture-perfect views. Connecting with nature will leave you feeling refreshed and inspired.
Before setting out, choose your park and track carefully. Plan to walk in the early morning to avoid the heat of the day or in midweek to avoid crowds. Pick a walk that suits your time and fitness level.
Remember you will walk in protected areas.
Remember to always walk safely and walk softly.

Dear Tom,
I’m sorry to hear that you will be back home soon. I will miss the joyful days we spent together.
As for a gift with Chinese features, I personally recommend Chinese knots. Knot, in Chinese “Jie” means reunion, friendship, good fortune and love. Therefore this unique artwork has been a popular gift for a long time to express best wishes and warmest regards. I think that your friends and family members will be delighted to have them.  Besides, Chinese knots are handy and light and it will be easy for you to carry around.
Wish you a pleasant and safe trip back home, and please remember you are always welcome to come back to visit us.
  Yours sincerely,
   Li Hua
Dear Tom,
How time flies! It’s been a year since we first met. I’m sorry to see that you’re leaving soon. I will never forget those memorable moments with you.
As to a present for your friends and family, how about some traditional Chinese bookmarks? They are mostly made of silk, rice paper or bamboo---the typical Chinese materials. What really make them unusual are the designs. Different sets feature different aspects of Chinese traditional culture, such as historic sites/figures, Chinese paintings and paper cuts. You may have a lot of them for your friends to choose from. Your friends will surely be fascinated at first sight.
Take care and have a nice trip back home!
