第二节(25分)
Dear Bob,
I’m glad to hear that you’re greatly interested in Guangxi culture, and I’d like to recommend you a good place to learn more about it in Nanning—Guangxi Museum of Nationalities.
The museum, the largest of its kind in Guangxi, displays the traditional ethnic culture. There are varieties of exhibits, such as architectures, food, costumes and musical instruments. The bronze drum is a typical symbol of Guangxi culture and is widely used in all kinds of ceremonies. People hit bronze drums to pray for rain and a good harvest and celebrate important festivals. Besides, visitors can have a better understanding of the real objects displayed in the museum with the help of the guides.
Welcome to Nanning and wish you a wonderful tour here.
Yours,
Li Hua

Text 1
M: What can we do that’s free and fun?
W: Let’s go to the history museum. Every first Sunday of the month, admission is free. That’s tomorrow! Let’s go.
Text 2
W: I want to sell this old refrigerator. How much do you think I can get for it? I bought it for $800 five years ago. It works really well, except for the broken shelf.
M: If the shelf weren’t broken, I’d say you could get $300. But you’ll probably only get about $150.
Text 3
M: I can’t believe you got such great seats to this baseball game!
W: I’m glad you like them.
M: We are right by home plate. I can see everything perfectly.
W: I almost got seats by first base, but I thought you would like these more.
Text 4
M: Jeanne, can I ask you a question?
W: Go ahead.
M: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
W: That’s a good question, Tim! I would go to Japan, China, or France. Too bad I have no money to buy a ticket!
Text 5
W: All the plants in my garden died! I don’t know what happened. I watered them a lot and fed them plant food. What did I do wrong?
M: Maybe the garden wasn’t in enough sun. You did plant them on the side of the house that gets the most shade.
Text 6
W: I’m feeling very shaky this morning.
M: Try drinking some water or having something to eat.
W: I already ate a cake, but I’m still feeling strange.
M: Are you sure you’re not sick or something?
W: I could be.
M: Yeah, you don’t look very good. Maybe you should skip the meeting this afternoon. I’m sure everyone will understand.
W: OK. I think I might just go home now. Do you mind telling the boss for me? I’ll finish my project when I come back tomorrow, if I’m feeling better.
M: Sure. Are you okay to drive?
W: I think so. I’ll just drive slowly.
Text 7
M: Marissa, if your papers continue to be late, I will have to give you a failing grade for the course.
W: I’m sorry! I’ve been having a really hard semester.
M: You need to try a little harder, okay?
W: I know, I will. There has just been a lot going on lately. I’m moving out of my house, and my brother is in the hospital.
M: I’m sorry to hear that, but this is the seventh paper you’ve turned in late.
W: I promise I’ll get the next one in on time. Just please don’t fail me.
M: I’ll give you one more chance, but just one. Don’t let me down.
Text 8
M: The Bacon Bacon food truck is down the street. I’m going to get lunch. Can I get you something?
W: I was wondering why I was so hungry. I skipped breakfast. I have been working straight since I got here to work at 8:00 a.m. I even didn’t have time to drink my morning coffee. A big juicy bacon burger would be awesome.
M: I always get a burger. Today, I’m going to try their grilled cheese sandwich. I hear it has three different kinds of cheese, bacon, and bacon jam.
W: Jam made out of bacon? Wow. I’d buy a big jar of that bacon jam right now if they have it!
M: They might. Okay, I’ll go down and pick up lunch for you and me.
W: No, wait. I need a break, and I need to make sure I can buy that jam.
M: OK, let’s hurry. If we wait too long, the lunch crowd will be there, and they might run out of everything.
Text 9
M: The special effects in that movie were so realistic! I felt like I was in outer space a few times.
W: Yeah! It wouldn’t have been the same watching this movie at home on TV. The huge screen and sound system in this theater really made a difference.
M: And when the aliens started shooting lasers at the ship, I was like, whoa! I jumped back in my seat. They were so scary, with those big eyes and long, wired fingers.
W: I hope I don’t have nightmares tonight about being taken prisoner by aliens.
M: Just remember—the astronauts won the battle. They defeated the aliens and saved the planet earth, so you don’t have to worry.
W: That’s right! Hey, do you have any more popcorn left?
M: I can’t believe you’re still hungry! We ate almost an entire large popcorn, plus candy and soda.
W: I didn’t eat lunch! Let’s get some ice cream and see another movie. I want to watch the comedy about the talking cats. It’s starting in 20 minutes!
M: Or we could see the one about the prisoners breaking out of jail!
W: No, I’d rather see something funny.
M: OK, that sounds good.
Text 10
The novel Leopold Blue, published by Hot Key Books in 2014, won the 2015 Branford Boase Award for Outstanding First Children’s Novel. Set in a small town in South Africa in 1993, the novel is a coming-of-age story about a 15-year-old girl named Meg, and it deals with the themes of friendship, romance, and family. The book takes place during a disturbing time in South Africa, when the country was dealing with violence and the rapid spread of AIDS. Adult readers, along with young adults and children, have expressed interest and appreciation for the book’s subject matter, making it a book that can be read and enjoyed at any age. Author Rosie Rowell was named the winner in a ceremony at Walker Books in London, alongside her editor Emily Thomas. The Branford Boase Award is the only award that recognizes the editor’s role in encouraging new talent. Rowell, who grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, but now lives in West Sussex, England with her husband and children, has said it was “an enormous honour” to win. Her second novel, Almost Grace, was published in June 2015.
